2009 AUDI A4 AVANT

The 3.2 FSI is the most powerful of the four with 195 kW (265 hp) and 330 Nm (243.40 lb-ft) torque between 3,000 and 5,000 rpm. It reaches 100km/h (62.14 mph) in 6.4 with a max speed of 250 km/h (155.34 mph)

HYUNDAI GENESIS COUPE

RENAULT MEGANE COUPE CONCEPT 2008

The Geneva Auto Show was a privilege for Renault to showcase their concept version of the Mégane Coupé. The new design points to a future production model that wants to be a perfect compact sports coupe, being styled in an attempt to bring out character and dynamism.

The futuristic design is overall very beautiful and it’s only enhanced by the same style on inside. The exterior features aluminum finished air-intakes which flow into the concept’s headlights, meant to convey the impression of movement. A series of crystal-like light strips act as turn signals and daytime running lights, while gull-wing doors provide access to the cabin. The press release statements pointed out that the “unprecedented door opening kinematics” and “the juxtaposition of headlamp modules with aluminum-finish air-intakes” are the main features of the concept model.

The inside of the Renault took influences from modern furniture and designers created an upscale driving environment. Independent asymmetric front seats seem to float due to the clever ingenuity of designers. The center console flows into the rear cabin, creating separate seating for two individuals. Featuring the latest technology, the cabin has a central screen which is divided into three separate views. The main screen activates the concept’s various systems such as navigation, radio, and Bluetooth while the two side screens display exterior side views from cameras incorporated into the mirrors. Rear passengers are well accommodated as the concept has four-zone climate control and a Samsung P2 multimedia player. The interior is well fitted for car of this stature and the array of gadgetry makes for a very entertaining driving experience.

The engineering didn’t stop here. As far as motoring options goes, the coupe offers a 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine which produces 200 horsepower and 280Nm of torque. Put that through a six-speed manual transmission and drivers can get the coupe from 0-100 km/h in 7.2 seconds. The fuel consumption isn’t bad either, estimated at 6.5 liters per 100km.

Alfa Romeo showed up at the Geneva Convention this year with the new version of their classic 159 series. The new model will be available in two forms: berlina and Sportwagon. Exterior design has also been altered: the introduction of the rear logo, fitted with a push system, for immediate and safe opening of the boot and exclusive to the Sportwagon model, is the introduction of the “fix & fold” system, which allows total use of the baggage space by quickly and simply, folding down the rear seats. As an added bonus the guys from Alfa introduced three new tints (ice white, crystal blue and grey indigo) and three new alloy variations (16″ or 17″, in a sporty or elegant design).

Ford attended the Geneva show this year having big plans for their models. One of the attractions of the stand was the new version of a big seller for them the Focus. The Coupe-Cabriolet revealed features numerous enhancements over its predecessor.

The new facelift works wonders on the car and also comes with a few other goodies for Ford enthusiasts: equipped with a Pininfarina retractable hardtop, the new model now offers the best luggage volume in its class. The facelift itself brings it closer to the sedan model, creating a good mix of appeal and daily driver usability. The model is also packed full of new options making it just a little more attractive than it already is. A keyless start, a tire deflation detection system, improved audio systems which support Bluetooth and USB connectivity, and multiple navigation systems pretty much paints a clear picture of what the designers at Ford are trying to do with this model. This array of gadgets may seem as a financial setback for potential buyers but this aspect hasn’t been overlooked. The first navigation system uses SD cards which helps to keep the option affordable, the second system is a more traditional DVD based unit which features a 7-inch color touchscreen.

When it comes to the engineering part of the new model, Ford has come up with various motoring options. Powering the new Focus CC are a host of engines including a 1.6L with 100HP or a 2.0L with 145HP Duratec petrol. For the diesel version, Ford came up with a 2.0L, 136HP Duratorq engine that develops 320 Nm of torque. As if it wasn’t enough there will also be a port package with a retuned suspension, special 17” alloy wheels, and tinted headlights, for the most adventurous customers. All in all only good news to report from the Ford stand at the Geneva show this year.

LOTUS EUROPA SE

   The new Lotus Europa SE has been revealed featuring increased levels of comfort, topping the Exige and Elise. The SE has been developed for a certain relaxed driving style but still keeps a good performance. The SE has an improved two liter turbocharged engine that was 222 horsepower and with 221 lb-ft. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 in 5.5 seconds and has an approximately top speed of 143 mph (230 km/h).The mid-mounted 2 liter turbo charged engine has a better calibration to 225 PS and with 300 Nm of pure torque to give easy cruising capability.
   Europa SE has a pair of four pot breaks and 308 mm diameter disks by AP Racing witch are covered by the new 17” wheels in the front and 18” in the rear. The slim body work and the flat underbody generates positive down force witch provides balance while handling at speed. Europa has race car derived double wishbone suspension, attracting new wheels and for higher levels of grip, high performance tires.

The CEO of Group Lotus plc stated: “As the true driver will know, this Europa range, offers access to Lotus’ unique DNA for those who perceive the Elise and Exige as a little too uncompromising for everyday use. The new Europa SE sits at the more refined end of the Lotus spectrum, providing a terrific mix of performance, agility and style, but incorporates Lotus’s values and heritage”.

Lotus made its signature on the SE with four stylish hides of high quality leather for the owner’s tactile pleasure. Like all 08’ Lotus cars The Europa SE comes with airbags, a standard button for the engine startup and a high quality stereo system.

This fine piece of machinery can be yours for 41,500 euro without having to pay taxes, delivery & other related costs. Although Europa SE has been produced for European customers only, it will be available to a much larger audience all over Europe starting with June 2008.

2009 INFINITY FX MAKES ITS SHOW STOPPING DEBUT AT GENEVA

After releasing a couple of teasers these last few weeks, the Japanese at Nissan revealed all-new 2009 Infinity FX last night in a club-like setting just down the road from the Palexpo. Carlos Ghosn himself came to assist the unveiling. In a great show of smoke, mirrors and choreographed theatrics the new FX dropped form the ceiling in front of the EX37 and G37.

This redesigned 2009 FX will be offered in three models: the topping being the FX50 revealed at Geneva. The FX50’s new 390-horsepower 5.0-liter DOHC V8 outmatches the standard 4.5-liter V8 in the 2008 Infiniti FX45 by 70 horses. Also, Infiniti said the new V8 is mounted low in the chassis “to help lower the FX50’s center of gravity.” The new V8 delivers 369 lb-ft of torque and is linked to a seven-speed automatic transmission with adaptive shift control, downshift rev-matching and solid magnesium paddle shifters. The Infiniti FX50 also ups the stake with larger 21-inch wheels and tires versus the 20-inchers in the 2008 Infiniti FX45.

Curiously enough no news about the V6-equipped 2009 FX was given to the press, saying only that they would be announced later. The second-generation FX is expected to get a larger 3.7-liter V6 and thus it has been unofficially dubbed FX37.

On the inside the restyled cabin gets a new dashboard that now incorporates a center control panel similar to the one in the new EX35 SUV. Available features include Lane Departure Prevention, Intelligent Cruise Control and Around View Monitor. AVM uses cameras positioned around the exterior of the car to create a virtual bird’s-eye view of the SUV to help drivers gauge distances when parking.

The 2009 Infinity FX is certainly a car to look for in June when it hits the American showrooms and October when it arrives in Europe at a Nissan dealership near you.

THE JAGUAR XKR-S COUPE

 

  The Jaguar XKR-S Coupe will be on sale summer ’08 and only 200 cars will be produced. They will only be available on the European markets, with left and right hand drive and all cars will come in black. It’s the fastest of its kind, with 19mph more then the XKR and the fastest since the XJ220 from the early 90s.

  It reaches an electronically limited top speed of 174mph (280kph)The groundbreaking performance comes from improved aerodynamics, unique suspension set-up and recalibrated engine management. The optional ultra fast manual shifts controlled by steering wheel - mounted paddle shifts - with shift times measured in milliseconds probably makes the XKR-S have the fastest shifting transmission in the world. Without loosing comfort, Jaguar made some radical changes to the suspension and steering to provide further enhanced ride and handling characteristics making the XKR-S more agile then previous models.The breaks for the XKR-S developed by Jaguar’s Special Vehicles team in partnership with British competition brake specialist Alcon can only be characterized as high performance. After thousands of miles of testing on some of the most demanding roads, the XKR-S Alcon R Performance Breaking System features 400mm diameter discs on the front and 350mm discs at the rear which are radially ventilated for cooling and to resist fade under the hardest use. The breaking system was specifically designed to match the XKR-S’s top speed.

 The exterior has been changed, so it looks different without being overstated. The body has a stiff all aluminum structure whit new front air splitter, side sill extensions, a rear spoiler and a new rear bumper with a diffuser panel.

  The XKR-S has new bespoke springs, anti-roll bars and unique dampers. The core suspension parameters are recalibrated, the XKR-S uses the Computer Active Technology Suspension (CATS) with unique tuning and it also uses a faster ratio steering rack. Last but certainly not least, the 4.2litre V8 supercharged engine under its hood isn’t something to be overlooked.

 Inside it has a luxury sport theme whit soft leather, ivory twin needle contrast stitching, electrically adjustable seating with adjustable bolsters and black veneer trim.The Jaguar XKR-S Coupe is a mix of high speed performance, dynamic excellence and crafted luxury which definitely makes it a super car.
