Mahindra is not an alien brand in the U.S Vehicle market; it has already built a good reputation through sales of farm equipment, mainly tractors, some of which are assembled at one of three U.S. plants. With this brand image Mahindra has decided to compete the US auto market by introducing “SCORPIO” the home made SUV by joining hands with the scrappy Atlanta-based importer. Global Vehicles USA, Inc. of Alpharetta, Georgia, near Atlanta will handle the sales and service. The Scorpio has already stung the France, Italy, Portugal, Spain, South Africa, Malaysia, and also the red-hot Russian market.
Mahindra Scorpio, the eye catching sports utility vehicle which has been appreciated for its stylish appearance and its performance is powered by a 120hp, 2.2-liter four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine. This power plant, dubbed “mHawk,” uses four valves per cylinder and common-rail fuel injection, features claimed to enhance mpg and minimize exhaust emissions (notably the greenhouse-gas carbon dioxide). This 4X4 SUV can reach 60 km/hr from rest in a matter of 5.7 seconds. The vehicle delivers overall mileage of 26 mpg. The car has several safety features which include antilock brake system, fire retardant upholstery, tubeless tyres, digital engine immobiliser etc. The car has cruise control feature and crash protection crumple zone. The design variations available in the car include New Scorpio LX, Scorpio SLE, VLX, VLX BSIV Micro Hybrid and VLX Automatic.
