Escape Hybrid was the first vehicle to combine SUV capability with the outstanding fuel economy and low environmental impact of a full hybrid vehicle. The Hybrid has the ability to travel at speeds up to 44 miles per hour, while in full electric mode, yet uses no fuel when you’re stopped in traffic. The Hybrid delivers an impressive 34 city mpg when the engine kicks in, for lively acceleration. In addition, it features comfortable seating for five, a versatile cargo area, and a number of standard and optional amenities. Not only does Escape Hybrid thrive in city driving, it’s easy on the environment too, meeting strict Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (SULEV II) and Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (AT-PZEV) standards. Another great Escape performance option is the potent 240-horsepower 3.0L Duratec® V6 engine mated to an efficient 6-speed automatic transmission. This engine churns out strength and provides torque to give you responsive power when you want it, all while delivering striking fuel economy. The 3.0L Duratec® V6 is also a flex-fuel-capable engine. A flex-fuel engine is designed to operate on standard unleaded gasoline or E85 alternative fuel. Escape models with an automatic transmission are equipped with a six-speed gearbox for smooth performance. Furthermore, with its wide span of gear ratios across the six speeds, this transmission of power provides pleasingly responsive acceleration at the low end and excellent highway fuel economy in the overdrive sixth gear. When it comes time to load and go, you’ll be glad you have a roof rack as a cargo-carrying option. The side rails are Black on XLS, XLT and Escape Hybrid, Chrome on the Escape Limited and Hybrid Limited. The available Cargo Package, standard on Escape Limited, offers further cargo-carrying convenience.
