The Fiat 127 was introduced from 1971 to 1983 as a supermini car and it was a replacement for Fiat 850. It was available as 2-door saloon when it was first launched and a 3-door hatchback which has an identical body profile along with a full-depth rear door and the folding rear seat. The Fiat 127 was the first super-mini sized hatchback which had a state-of-the-art transverse engine/front wheel drive layout and the transmission was mounted on end of the engine. The car had a rugged 903 cc overhead valve engine along with Autobianchi, other different cylinder capacities and a transverse leaf spring suspension at rear.
