Diesel is in power, at least for the brand with four rings: Audi Q7 V12 TDI will become the most powerful model in the luxury SUV range since this year. After the initial concept in Detroit 2010, the new one is the Audi Q7 V12 TDI Coastline Concept, which will be presented for the first time in Geneva in 2011, so now people at Audi have announced finally that the model will go into series production of in mid 2011. It is unclear if Audi Q7 V12 TDI will be sold in America, but analysts consider that this step is necessary for overseas branding.
The engine comes from the endurance race car Audi R10 LeMans, with 6.0 liters and developing not less than 500 hp like the cousin Porsche Cayenne Turbo, which, however, receive a turbo petrol V8 of 4.8 liters. The differences between those two cars do not stop here: if Porsche Cayenne Turbo develops “only” 700 Nm, the Audi Q7 TDI raises the power with almost half of this value, reaching a maximum torque or 1,000 Nm/1.750 rpm.
In light of these values, there are natural performances: 0-100 km / h in just 5.5 seconds (5.1 seconds for the Porsche Cayenne Turbo) and 250 km / h maximum speed.
You thought that fans of the Porsche Cayenne Turbo escaped at the mustache of humility? Well, no: Audi Q7 V12 TDI consumes just 8.5 litres/100 km, complying with Euro 5 standards, while the Porsche Cayenne Turbo is, by comparison, a thirsty beast with the 14.9 litres/100 km.
