Smart start mass production in November for the second generation of electric motor vehicles, a model that will be able for sale in the 2012.
Since the mid of November 2009, the new Smart Fortwo with electric motor will run the production line in Hambach Smart plant, France.
The new Smart Fortwo electric will be launched initially for customers in Berlin and other cities in Europe and USA, which will become the eco-friendly trends beside the electric engines, by testing the car under real conditions. Since 2012, the vehicle will be available to all interested persons.
The second generation of Smart Fortwo electric motor, is equipped with a lithium-ion batteries manufactured by Tesla Motors placed between the decks.
A 30kW electric motor with a torque of 120 Nm is built and mounted into the back of the car.
The electric Smart Fortwo sprints from 0 to 60 km in 6.5 seconds as fast as a diesel or petrol engine. The speed of the vehicle was intentionally limited to 100 km / h, a appropriate speed limit for the city. A fully charged battery is enough to drive 115 km. To fully charge the battery, the vehicle must be connected to a power source only three hours.
Due to the electric motor, electric Smart Fortwo needs only a speed gear. It is not necessary to change gears - a major advantage in dense city traffic. In reversing the motor rotation, the direction is reversed.
The electric smart fortwo can be charged at any electrical outlet in the house. In Germany, a full charge of the battery costs about 2 euros and is sufficient for 115 kilometers - more than enough for city traffic.
