Chief designer of the Ford Mustang said that the new generation will try to adopt as more modern light design, without abandoning retro influences.
From a long time, Ford had nothing to be worried about, being the strongest muscle car in its segment, where the Mustang was the absolute master, but once with the advent of the new Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Charger, the Americans from Ford were not so sure of their status. That is why the launch of a new generation of the best-selling Mustang is a paramount challenge for the blue oval designers.
Jay Mays, Ford design chief, said last week that the current model will get a new look, however to increase the customers appetite. The designer refused to talk about how the new generation of muscle-car will look like, expected to debut in 2014, right in the year that Mustang goes on a 50 year of existence.
Only this venerable age will make the next generation to give a retro largely look with the one we have used to. ”The opportunity to launch the new generation in the year that the model celebrates half a century should make us want to satisfy the all current fans of Mustang, but also to help us win new ones. No doubt the model should still look like a Mustang at first sight. But to do that we do not need quite many elements to define the aesthetic”, said Mays.
Thus, the new generation of the highly acclaimed model on the American continent will try to address to a new direction of design, but without abandoning the traditional influences and elements of a retro muscle car.
