Daewoo Espero is a mid range sedan produced by the South Korean manufacturer Daewoo Motors, which is also the producer of Cielo, Tico, Matiz, Nubira 1 and 2 and Leganza. The model was designed in the early 90′s and was produced until 1997 in Korea and until 1998 in Poland and Romania. The design was conceived by the Italian company Bertone and the technique part was taken from General Motors, respectively from Opel Ascona, using a J form platform (J platform, or J-body). It is common to other GM cars like the Chevrolet Cavalier (1982-2005), Pontiac Sunbird (1985-1994), Pontiac Sunfire (1995-2005), Vuaxhall Cavalier MkII (1982-1988), Buick Skyhawk (1982 -1989). All these vehicles have the letter “J” on the fourth position in the identification number of the car, as a proof of that the car is using this platform. A similar design, also manufactured and designed by Bertone, is met at the Citroën Xantia.
The options for this Daewoo Espero version is the only petrol engine, with multipoint injection technology, but it also comes with a choice between 3 engines: first of 1500 cc developing an amount of 90 horsepower, a second of 1800 cc and an amount of 90 or 95 horsepower ( depending if the version comes with catalyst / without catalyst) and a third version of 2000 cc and developing 105 horsepower.
Espero has had a full equipment, specific to the mid-ranged sedans such as ABS, dual airbags, air conditioning, electrical control accessories (windows, mirrors, boot lid, fuel filler cap from the tank and other). The model was produced in one body-type available.
Its production has stopped in 1997, his place being taken by the Daewoo Leganza model.
