There are only two years until the German mid-range sedan will get a completely new technological arsenal and will become easier, breaking all contact with previous generations.
Volkswagen Passat managed to win the standard status of middle class in Europe, a very important segment for auto manufacturers. Formed in 2005, the current generation received a deeply facelift in 2010, but the grow their sales, they need to to renew totally the car and it is increasingly felt.
At Wolfsburg, no one is in vain, so that the new generation of Volkswagen Passat, expected in 2014, is in the process of development, starting a new modular technical platform called MQB. The great advantage of it will be that will be used for both mid-range machines and for the lower segments, for both compact and small versions.
Moreover, the same basis will be used in designing future the Volkswagen Golf and Audi A3 and for his Passat, MQB solution will ensure weight loss of about 50 kg, an important detail, for a significantly improved fuel consumption. Also a better economic engine range will also help.
These will be largely taken from the current generation, but in their case will be adapted a start / stop system and a catalyst to meet the Euro 6 pollution standards in case of the diesel version. For the first time, Volkswagen Passat range will also have a hybrid alternative.
The entertainment on board will be missing says the German engineers, preparing them for an advanced interior car and multimedia system, equipped with Bluetooth and iPod connection.
