The Volvo Duett was an automobile that was produced from the year 1953 to 1969. It was named Duett to signify a car which can be used as a delivery vehicle and a comfortable sedan. It was available with a 1.8 liter 1778 cc straight-4 B18 engine along with a 4-speed manual transmission. The vehicle was introduced in three different body styles such as estate car or station wagon, panel van and in small numbers along with a bare chassis without body from the windshield rearward. The Volvo Duett has a wheelbase of 2,600 mm, length of 4,400 mm, width of 1,600 mm and a height of 1,700 mm. The design of the vehicle was based on the Volvo PV sedan which also includes engine and front suspension. Similar to the Volvo PV, this model featured a unibody design and coil spring rear suspension. The vehicle received lot of criticism from most of the people to be a regressive design which was based on the Volvo’s first unibodied car. There were separate ladder chassis which offered an easy solution for a suitable commercial vehicle. The Volvo Duett was the only model that was marketed by Volvo in the United States with a separate frame and other models were made of unibody construction. It had a versatility of ladder-frame design which made it a popular choice and it was replaced by Volvo Express which was a high-roofed version of Volvo 145 estate wagon.
