The 2000 Isuzu Kai is a concept vehicle that was first introduced at the Tokyo Auto Show. The name Kai is a Japanese word which means return to the beginning. The vehicle was expected to feature dual-overhead-camshaft, 24-valve, common-rail direct-injection V6 2.5 liter engine or 3.0 liter displacement engine. It also features a 4 wheel drive option and other styling cues are based on the Japanese culture. The radiator grill design has been inspired by the Shinto temple gateway and seat patterns are based on the Samurai armour. Most of them have been criticizing the Japanese motor manufacturers which led Isuzu to plan for such a concept vehicle. The 2000 Isuzu Kai was introduced with a wheelbase of 2700 mm and a length of 13 ft with minimal overhangs. The vehicle also had a flamboyant and wild styling that has a large bit of Simon Cox. The engine of this model is considered to be lightweight and compact which readily fits the bay of a mid-to-large passenger car. In this model all the wheels are driven by an electronically controlled torque split or transfer system that has been specially developed by Borg Warner. The 2000 Isuzu Kai chassis is available with all independent suspension. The vehicle features small square windows in the sun roof which is similar to the Shoji screens that is usually found in Japanese houses. The interior has been designed with natural grain leather as a Japanese respect for natural materials and harmony.
