The taiwanese wants to surprise the automotive world after their first electric van, behold, the Shanghai Motor Show 2011, presented the concept of a sedan with an electric motor: Luxgen Neora Concept. Does this will be the first large premium electric car from all these series?
While the car’s world attention was concentrating to the Renault plans in the electric machines domain and promises of other big automakers, the Taiwanese Luxgen showed quite discreet the electric monocab Luxgen 7 MPV. And now, in the Shanghai Motor Show 2011, here is the Luxgen Neora Concept, a luxury electric sedan (at least so they say).
Although we are told Luxgen Neoral is at the concept stage, the model looks almost ready for the mass production, only the lights being specific in its appearance, to a showcar. Overall, Luxgen Neoral is a mid-range sedan, developed harmoniously, which seems to be a serious competitor for Volkswagen Passat and Ford Mondeo – even if the dimensional values were not disclosed.
The electric motor used Luxgen Neoral is demanding, announcing no less than 180 kW (245 hp). Therefore, the performance is excellent, the car accelerates to 100 km / h in just 6.5 seconds – that the premium V6 saloon, more gourmet. Speed, however, is limited to only 150 km / h, which, of course, will be a big minus in the eyes of detractors of electric machines.
However, lithium-ion batteries promise a maximum reach of 400 km, a record to the current series. Their rapid loading (at 80% capacity) takes only one hour, and the total mass is announced as Neoral Luxgen model is 1.6 tons.
Rumors say that the production model will have Luxgen Neoral, first, conventional gasoline engine, and it will be sold in Asian markets and in the Middle East. But expansion plans for the USA and Europe is clear that will be focused on the electric motor version.
