From Detroit Mercedes launched a new hypothesis, a possible hybrid hatchback, which is called BlueZero E-Cell Mercedes. The proposal seems to be apparently quite serious, because the Germans return to Frankfurt with the same idea, but this time it seems to be closer to a renamed version of the series and it is called Mercedes E-Cell Plus BlueZero.
This model has a series system hybrid, meaning its engine is connected to a generator that charges the lithium-ion battery of 18 kW, which then provides all the power to the electric motor, which is able to trigger the concept. The Internal combustion engine is a 3 cylinder turbo that produces 67 HP and it ensures a total autonomy of about 500 km ( the electric model only covers about 100 km). However, this model remains a great plug in hybrid and before you travel it must be charged from the mains. Thus for a road of about 50 km 30 minutes are sufficient, and for a “full” this model should be taken about one hour connected to a power source.
The electric motor produces about 100 kW and it has about 320 Nm of torque, which is delivered almost instantly. These specifications imply a time of about 11 seconds in order to reach 100 km / h and a top speed of about 150 km / h. At Detroit Mercedes showed us the two new concepts that run the BlueZero E-Cell Mercedes and Mercedes BlueZero F-Cell models, but the E-Cell Plus version seems to be the most ready to make their debut in the real world.
