The Mitsubishi Galant GTO is also called as a Colt Galant GTO which was produced from the year 1970 to 1976. It was available with different engine options such as 1.6 liter I4 engine that was able to generate 125 hp and a 2.0 liter I4 engine along with a 4-speed manual or 5-speed manual transmission. The design of the car has been inspired by the American Pony Cars which includes Mustang and Firebird. It featured long hood and rounded head and tail-lamps which are indicative of the American influence. The Mitsubishi Galant GTO was available with a wheelbase of 2,420 mm, length of 4,125 mm, width of 1,580 mm, height of 1,310 mm and it also weighed about 2,200 lb. The exterior was designed by Hiroaki Kamisago which featured many stylistic cues from the contemporary American muscle cars. This was the first Japanese passenger car which had full, roll down, side windows and pillar less design. The car also had wider 185-section tires, black-painted rear panel between the lights and flared guards. The Mitsubishi Galant GTO was also exported to other countries such as New Zealand, United Kingdom as well as Asian countries. The car was originally expected to compete in the prestigious JCCA Grand Prix circuit and it was also successful in Rallying at the famous Japanese Alpine Rally. This model was available with minor changes during its production period which included honeycomb-style front grille and Mitsubishi’s Silent Shaft system.
