

The Opel Olympia Rekord is a 2-door family car that was produced from the year 1953 to 1957. The car was available with a 1488 cc, 4-cylinder in-line water-cooled engine that is capable of producing either 40 hp at 3800 rpm or 45 hp at 3900 rpm and a torque of 69 lb-ft at 1900 rpm or 72 lb-ft at 2300 rpm. It also featured a 3–speed manual transmission along with column mounted lever. The front suspension had double wish-bone along with coil springs and rear suspension featured rigid rear axle along with semi-elliptical leaf springs. The Opel Olympia Rekord was able to reach a top speed of around 73-76 mph and it can accelerate from 0-60 mph in about 26-30 seconds. It had an estimated fuel economy of about 22.4-24.0 mpg. The car was introduced with a wheelbase of 2487 mm, length of 4210–4245 mm and a height of about 920–930 kg. This was one of the most defining model for the company which had a revolutionary monocoque body construction and hydraulically controlled drum brakes. The Opel Olympia Rekord was available with strikingly modern Ponton format body-work along with numerous styling features and large amounts of chrome decoration. The car was a commercial success where about 580,000 units were produced by the company during its production period. This model was Germany’s second best seller and another commercial version was also introduced in the later stages of its production.
