The Renault 4 Clan was a hatchback economy car that was produced as a special edition model by the company from the year 1961 to 1992. This model is the first front-wheel drive family car that was developed by the company. It has been powered by an 1108 cc engine along with a 3-speed manual or 4-speed manual transmission. The design and other elements in this model remained unchanged for a long time including its size and shape. The exterior chrome trim were phased out on all the models and aluminum grilles were replaced along with plastic items. The Renault 4 Clan was introduced with a wheelbase of 2,440 mm, length of 3,663 mm, width of 1,430 mm, height of 1,470 mm and it had a weight of about 1,323 lb. The wheelbase was also shorter on the left when compared to the right as the rear wheels were not mounted directly opposite each another. The car featured four-wheel torsion-bar independent suspension that was similar to the previous models produced by the company. The Renault 4 Clan was available with three different dashboards which were simple in design. The fuel filler at the back the position on the right side of the car was raised by about 6 inches when compared to the standard model. This model remained a basic car during its entire production period as it featured comfortable seats, well-designed suspension, windows with sliding mechanisms, powerful heater, effective ventilation and comfortable ride.
