The 2013 Mazda RX-9 is a new sports car that is expected to enter into the market by the end of next year. Mazda engineers came up with an interesting innovation: the system uses a ELOOP capacitor, which uses them specially instead of a battery pack, heavier and more bulky. Here’s what it is.

i-ELOOP includes a variable voltage alternator between 12V and 25 V, a double-layer capacitor with low electrical resistance and a DC / AC converter. When the car decelerates, the energy would be dissipated as heat is transferred through the capacitor to alternator.
