VOLVO C30 – BUILD AFRESH BY HEICO SPORTIV
Even Volvo confesses the C30 hasn’t been the rollicking accomplishment the stiff was hoping for. Perhaps an additional focused choice topper would assist? At least that’s the philosophy of Heico Sportiv, the German firm commanding to become Volvo’s official tuner. And, it’s come up with this, the C30 Heico. By providing the turbocharged 2.5-litre engine a superior intercooler and swindling with the ECU, authority is up by 29bhp to 256bhp, torque by 44lb ft to 280. That trims the 0-62mph time from 6.7sec to 6.0, but where you actually notice the dissimilarity is that the enhanced torque is available through more of the rev range.
So all that work on the motor isn’t interpreted into unruly torque steer, an incomplete-slip diff has also been inserted. Brakes are updated too, with ATE discs and pads provide superb stopping power even after extended use. So it halts and goes very well certainly, it’s the bit stuck between where this C30 is found deficient. Lowering the deferment by 35mm assists diminish body roll, but like a standard T5 mock-up this car still doesn’t give as much in return to its driver as other correspondingly priced hot hatches. The clutch travel is stretched and the 6-speed gearbox counters to being hurried with a maddening vagueness. And while the C30 go halves with its chassis with the Ford Focus, in the course of the corners it still has nothing of that car’s nimbleness or adjustability.
