Volvo 3CC is the brainchild of the designers, engineers and business people at the Volvo Monitoring and Concept Center think-tank in California. Volvo’s 3CC illustrates how this automaker’s vision includes capitalizing on light weight, a small footprint, and innovative powertrains to address future driving needs. The 3CC is designed with a steel space frame and an outer body shell of bond-ed carbon fiber. Composite sandwich floor panels are used for safety and light weight. The car’s front electric drive, which provides 0-60 mph acceleration of about 10 seconds and a governed top speed of 85 mph, is powered by 3,000 lithium-ion batteries packaged within the sandwich floor. The batteries, the same type used in today’s laptop computers, provide a driving range of about 180 miles. Up to 20% of the battery pack’s energy can be recovered by regenerative braking.

The Volvo 3CC vehicle blends distinctive Volvo styling cues at its front and flanks. But there’s a sharp departure from traditional styling as this vehicle tapers toward the rear with a unique two-plus-one seating configuration with two adults up front and an additional seat for another adult or two children behind. Entering and exiting the interior is aided with a floating dash panel that slides forward as the doors swing upward. A sliding seat system also eases the process for rear seat passengers. Volvo 3CC is not only fuel-efficient, versatile, comfortable, and safe but also exciting to drive and look at.

The C30 hit the market in late 2006. Since October 2009, Volvo sold an update, which affects both the exterior and the interior. It is on sale from € 19,874. C30 is 4.27 m long and three-door bodywork tourism. This is an alternative to models like the Audi A3, the BMW 1 Series, the Mercedes-Benz CLC-Class or the Volkswagen Golf , among others, though configuration and body style is more like the Volkswagen Scirocco . It has the limitation of having only four seats, the rear a small space, and a small trunk (251 l). Available with five engines: three gasoline-one of them can also work with ethanol and two Diesel. Later there will be developments in diesel engines: the 1.6D will be 114 CV and D3 there will be a version with five-cylinder engine and 150 horsepower. In the previous Volvo C30 2.0D there was a 136 hp, a 180 PS D5 (the two are diesel) and a 170 hp 2.4 G for gasoline. The body can be painted in 13 different colors, one of which, called “Orange Flame Metallic ‘is new. The more powerful versions, both diesel and gasoline, continue to carry twin exhaust. Alloy wheels are also different and now you can buy a white.

Volvo was founded in 1927 and since the end of WW2 has been at forefront of safety, logging a huge number of innovations that have become industry norms. Volvo also became synonymous with family transport through its distinct estate cars. But as large 4×4 vehicles started to become the family vehicle of choice in the huge US market, Volvo was under pressure to respond with the similar vehicle. But many in the cautious Swedish company were not convinced. Not only was it a trend that might burn itself out, most of the popular SUVs were not much more than converted light trucks. Volvo’s safety specialists were also concerned by the tendency for tall vehicles to turn over during violent maneuvers (a potentially fatal incident in a conventional truck based SUV, which lacked high strength roof pillars). In a head on collision with a conventional saloon, the ride height of an SUV could also allow it ‘override’ the car’s nose, preventing the car’s airbags from triggering and putting huge crash forces into the car’s cabin. Eventually, the Volvo XC90 was unveiled in 2001. It was based on the company’s tough P2X road car chassis and managed to provide seven seats, the option of a long flat load bay and a range of capable five six and V8 engines.

Volvo addressed its safety concerns by building the XC90 with exceptionally strong roof pillars and fitting the car with a roll over protection system, which could apply the brakes on individual wheels to help prevent the car tipping over. The XC90 also had a low mounted crash beam in the nose to ensure that if it hit a salon head on, the car’s airbags would trigger. The XC90 was a huge hit and provided Volvo with a much needed sales boost in the first years of the new century.

Probably the most famous Volvo of all the 120 Series, like the PV, had American inspired styling, with the same taught bull-nosed look as the Chrylers did in their mid 1950s period. It also gained a reputation for durability, with an amazing resistance to corrosion because of the high quality steel used in its construction. Mechanically it was pure PV444 at first with three speeds on the early 121s, but the range began to look quite a lot more interesting after 1958, with the introduction of the twin-carb 122S, which had four speeds as standard. As the 1960s unfolded so did the successful Amazon range, it was only sold under that name in Sweden, though, it grew even more complex. With the bigger 1.8 liter B18 engine of 1961 came optional two door bodywork (131) and again you could have single carb or twin carb (S) variants. The five door Estate was known as the 221 and later, with twin carbs, the 222.

Overdrive was a commonly specified option on the Amazon, and front disc brakes were standard from 1965 onwards. Rarest and most desirable of the breed was the 123 GT with its stronger 115bhp, coming in the much better looking two door shell. To some of its enthusiasts, the Amazon has become known as ‘The car that cannot die’. The durability of the Volvo 120 series is certainly without doubt, as the surprisingly high number of roadworthy and rust free, Amazon still attest to.

One of the most distinctive features of C70 is its style. The front-end design is renewed to give C70 a dashing look. It’s fitted with sleeker headlamps. Also the rear-end styling is freshened with LED tail lamps and finely reworked contours. As per the interiors are concerned, the dashboard is fitted with a new instruments panel that consists of C70-specific gauges and graphics which are distinct than other Volvos.

Under the hood lies the C70’s turbocharged 2.5-liter inline five cylinder engine which produces a maximum power of 227 horsepower and 236 pound-ft of torque. With the turbo charged engine these figures are produced at lower rpm levels. C70 has a five-speed automatic transmission system with mandatory manual-shift control. The fuel economy of C70 is EPA rated at 28 miles per gallon on highway and 19 miles per gallon in city. In fact the engine and transmission of C70 are same as in C30 coupe. Generally in other cars, the side curtain bag comes down from the roof of the car. As C70 is a convertible, this bag comes from the doors of C70 and goes upward. So in case of accidents, the driver and passengers are protected by the side seat air bag as well as a side curtain air bag. C70 comes with an extremely good quality sound system. Getting into the car and out of the car is similar to any other 2-door coupe, but once you get in there is sufficient headroom unlike any other convertibles.

Volvo XC60 is comparatively more spacious inside than other vehicles in this segment such as BMW X3. In terms of size, it’s smaller than Volvo’s Xc90 which is seven passenger crossovers SUV. Under the hood lies the massive inline-6 which is the same in Volvo’s S80 sedan. The engine is 3.2 liter. Similar to the sedan S80 the XC60 also has standard front wheel drive. Also an optional all wheel drive is available.

Even Volvo confesses the C30 hasn’t been the rollicking accomplishment the stiff was hoping for. Perhaps an additional focused choice topper would assist? At least that’s the philosophy of Heico Sportiv, the German firm commanding to become Volvo’s official tuner. And, it’s come up with this, the C30 Heico. By providing the turbocharged 2.5-litre engine a superior intercooler and swindling with the ECU, authority is up by 29bhp to 256bhp, torque by 44lb ft to 280. That trims the 0-62mph time from 6.7sec to 6.0, but where you actually notice the dissimilarity is that the enhanced torque is available through more of the rev range.

So all that work on the motor isn’t interpreted into unruly torque steer, an incomplete-slip diff has also been inserted. Brakes are updated too, with ATE discs and pads provide superb stopping power even after extended use. So it halts and goes very well certainly, it’s the bit stuck between where this C30 is found deficient. Lowering the deferment by 35mm assists diminish body roll, but like a standard T5 mock-up this car still doesn’t give as much in return to its driver as other correspondingly priced hot hatches. The clutch travel is stretched and the 6-speed gearbox counters to being hurried with a maddening vagueness. And while the C30 go halves with its chassis with the Ford Focus, in the course of the corners it still has nothing of that car’s nimbleness or adjustability.
